Many restaurants serve food on 13-inch plates because it allows for better presentation. Unfortunately, portion sizes have increased along with plate sizes….and our waistlines! To put it in perspective, the average dinner plate in Europe is 9 inches and 13 inches in North American restaurants. Yikes, that is a big difference!
My best advice is to split your meal with your dining companion, or make two meals out of it for yourself. Ask your server for a doggie bag right away and put half of your food away before you begin. When eating protein, make it lean and about 3 oz. (the size of your palm or a deck of cards). And when eating a salad, don't ruin it with excess amounts of dressing.
If you are following the 21 Day Fix program, then you might be familiar with using the storage containers for portion control. The containers have helped me understand the correct amount of food I need according to my caloric intake. It takes the guess work out of counting calories and becoming aware of how much to eat.
